ODI World Cup 2023: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held a review meeting on Sunday (January 1) to chalk out the roadmap for the 2023 ODI World Cup. India have shortlisted 20 players for the mega event on home soil later this year.
It is known that Team India head coach Dravid has already announced that the new Indian cricket team will be seen from the new year. In the same order, the BCCI has also prepared a future plan with 20 players for the ODI World Cup. The BCCI held a review meeting in Mumbai on Sunday (January 1) and announced some major changes. The team in the 2023 ODI World Cup is also a part of that.
With the Yo-Yo test made mandatory for the Indian cricket team, Dexa has put a big focus on fitness. But the National Cricket Academy (NCA) has also announced that it will work with IPL franchises to monitor in depth the upcoming season. The BCCI has said that the upcoming players from the world’s richest cricket league have to play in the domestic season to be considered for selection.
Another big announcement came when BCCI Secretary Jaisha revealed that the board has shortlisted 20 players for the 2023 ODI World Cup. It seems that the team management will have a special focus on these players before this ICC event on home soil in October-November this year.
No announcement has been made on the identity of these players. But, it is expected to include the main part of the current team. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli continue to be legendary players in ODI cricket.
It is known that Shikhar Dhawan was left out in the recent team selection for the Sri Lanka series. When it comes to the opening partnership, Ishan Kishan or Shubman Gill are likely to be there.
And in the middle order, Shreyas Iyer is India’s best batsman in 2022. Suryakumar Yadav has been aggressive and aggressive in T20. KL Rahul and Sanju Samson have also impressed and are regulars in the middle order. Despite the recent mishap, Rishabh Pant remains on plan as the event is still 10 months away. However, it remains to be seen if Ishan, Rahul, Pant and Samson, the four in the plan as wicket keeping options, will get a chance.
When it comes to all-rounders, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are the key members of the team. Washington Sundar will also be a part of the squad as he has been consistently strong in white-ball cricket when fit. But that would confuse Akshar Patel’s position if Jadeja is fit.
Wrist-spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav are likely to lead the spin-bowling attack. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami are the starters for Team India in ODI cricket. Mohammad Siraj is yet to prove his place in 50 over cricket. And for the remaining positions, there is competition between Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur. It seems that players like Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh and Deepak Chahar will also get a place in this list.
The BCCI will announce the final 15-man squad a month before the mega event. However, according to the speculations coming till now, the names of the 20 players in that list keep getting leaked. Now let’s see who is in that list..
