There is a discussion going on in the industry about Shakunthalam movie since many days. Especially Samantha has high hopes for this.. Moreover, Gunasekhar also says that he will make an epic. Is there really so much magic hidden in this movie? To know how much Gunasekhar liked the story of Shakuntala and Dusyantula of Mahabharata period, we have to go to the review..

Dushyanta (Dev Mohan) is the king of Pura Empire. Once tigers attack the village, he saves the people from them. While hunting like that, Kanva Maharshi (Sachin Khedekar) accidentally visits the ashram. Seeing the beauty there, Dusyanta is also impressed. While looking like that, Shakuntala (Samantha) appears in his eyes. He looks at her and stays there.. he gets attracted to her. Shakuntala also falls in love at first sight when she sees Dusyantha. Both become one by Gandharva marriage. After that Shakuntala becomes pregnant. Dusyanta who left saying that he will take him back to the kingdom.. will not come back for many years. Shakuntala goes to the kingdom herself. But he doesn’t recognize her. What happened after that? What happened? The original story is why Dusyanta cannot recognize Sakuntha whom he loves dearly.
Article:
Gunasekhar was determined to go to the Adiparvam in Mahabharata and record the love story of Shakuntala. He showed the story he thought on the screen well. Otherwise, he has invented well only till the story. He could not give a real visual feast. Especially to make movies like this one needs to have a lot of experience and also have amazing visual effects. Gunasekhar was not very successful in using them. However, it is not so easy to make a myth these days.. But director Gunasekhar took that risk. The same Sakuntalam.. If not, he has succeeded in half of it. Since it is a known story, there is nothing new to tell.. Gunasekhar has made this film by taking a small number.
He tried his best without giving up. Otherwise the main minus of Sakunthalam is that the first half is very slow. But after the interval, the story does not pick up pace. Apart from that, the graphics are also not very impressive. The best thing about this movie.. before each character comes.. is to introduce them to them.. Kalinemi, Durvasudu.. there are many characters in this. It is interesting that if one character is asking for their introduction, another character is saying it. The battle scenes were not very impressive. They seem to want something more. Overall, many people know the story of Shakuntala Dusyantula. Gunasekhar was not very impressed with visualizing it.
Actors:
Samantha did justice to the character of Shakuntala.. otherwise why her character was seen so little. As long as it lasted, Sam was alive. Her performance in the second half was good. Samantha looked glamorous. Dusyanthu is the whole movie.. Dev Mohan has done this character well. Otherwise, it would have been better if someone had made a Telugu hero when he had such a lazy character. At the end, Allu Arha, who comes in the role of Bharathu, has done a wonderful job. She did magic on the screen with her budibudi steps.. short words. All the rest are ok..
Technical Team:
Manisharma’s music is missing. The background score is less impressive. The songs reminded me of Mani Sharma’s old movies. Cinematography is impressive. Shekhar managed as well as V Joseph. Editing by Praveen Pudi is very week. The first hour goes very slowly. And the director Gunasekhar seemed just ok but.. he couldn’t feel aha oho. To visualize this story there should be so much magic that the eyes cannot be turned away.. The director failed to do that. Gunasekhar spent a lot as a producer. But it didn’t look that good on the screen.
Punch Line:
Overall Shakuntalam.. OK to learn history..
