Also, Shastras also say that on this day, Lord Bhagiratha brought Ganga to the earth and released the curse of the oceans. On Makar Sankranti, there is also a tradition of bathing in holy places and donating sesame seeds, jaggery, sugarcane, groundnut, sesame laddu, rice, vegetables and pulses.
