Abhimanyu Easwaran: Bengal team will play in Ranji match against Uttarakhand at ‘Abhimanyu Cricket Academy Stadium’ in Dehradun. Abhimanyu Easwaran is all set to play a first class match at the stadium named after him.

Abhimanyu Easwaran: Bengal Ranji team will play Uttarakhand at ‘Abhimanyu Cricket Academy Stadium’ in Dehradun on Tuesday. An interesting aspect will come to light in this match. It is noteworthy that opener Abhimanyu Easwaran, who is racing for a place in the national team, is seen playing in the stadium named after him. Abhimanyu’s father Ranganathan Parameswaran Easwaran, with his passion for cricket, bought a huge plot of land in Dehradun in 2005 and spent a huge amount from his own pocket to build a first-class cricket stadium.

Speaking to PTI on the sidelines of the match, Eswaran, who was part of the Indian team on the tour of Bangladesh, said, “I am proud to play a Ranji match at the ground where I learned cricket as a young player. .” This stadium is the result of my father’s passion and hard work. Coming home is always a good feeling. But, once on the field, Bengal will focus on winning matches’ he said. Naming stadiums after veteran cricketers after retirement is not a new thing. But, it is rare for cricket stadiums to be named after first-class cricketers, even if they do not represent the national team.

A special occasion for both father and son..

The Viv Richards Ground in Antigua, the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarauba (Trinidad, Tobago) or the Allan Border Ground in Brisbane bear their names at the end of their illustrious careers. On this occasion, Abhimanyu playing at the ‘Abhimanyu Stadium’ is going to be a truly special occasion for both father and son.

The ground also has floodlights. BCCI has been holding its matches at this ground for the past few years. It hosts several domestic matches (Senior, Junior, Women). But never before has a stadium owner himself played a first-class match.

RP Easwaran told PTI, ‘Yes, I don’t think there are many such examples. But, for me it is not a victory. Yes, it’s fine. But, the real achievement was when my son could play 100 Tests for India. I built this stadium not only for my son but also for my passion for sports’ he said.

Start cricket academy before son’s birth

RP Easwaran, a chartered accountant by profession, started the ‘Abhimanyu Cricket Academy’ in 1988 and his son was born in 1995. “I started construction of the stadium in 2006. Spending from my pocket to upgrade it continuously. I have no financial benefit from this. But, this is for my passion for the game’ he said.
