According to media reports, the police have registered a case under IPC sections 279 and 294, of which section 279 deals with rash and negligent driving on a public road, endangering human life. Conviction under this section shall be punishable with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to 6 months, or with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees, or with both (imprisonment and fine). Section 294 of IPC deals with doing obscene act in public place with intent to annoy others. If a person does obscene act, sings obscene song, obscene story, sings or utters words in public place for the purpose of teasing others, then he will be considered as accused.

On conviction, the person may be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to 3 months, or with fine, or with both, imprisonment and fine. It is a bailable and cognizable offense and can be heard by any magistrate.
