India defeated the host team by 54 runs in the first match of the under-19 women’s T20 series in South Africa on Tuesday. Thus, Team India took a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20 series. Batting first in this match, the Indian Under-19 Women’s team scored 137 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Captain Shafali Verma (0) continued his poor form. But with the support of Shweta (40 off 39 balls; 5 fours), Soumya (40 off 46 balls; 3 fours, 1 six) and Richa Ghosh (15), team India scored a respectable score. Among the safari bowlers, Hlubi and Kela Renak took 2 wickets each. Meanwhile, the South African girls who entered the ring to break the low target were tied up by the Indian bowlers. They controlled the runs and increased the pressure on the home team by taking wickets at successive breaks. At the end of the scheduled overs, South Africa lost 8 wickets and scored 83 runs.
Meanwhile, in this match, seamer MD Shabnam from Visakhapatnam exploded. She gave away only 15 runs in 4 overs and took three wickets to break the streak of Safaris. Along with her, Archana Devi (3/14) also exploded, so Team India won by 54 runs. After this series, the Under-19 Women’s T20 will be held in South Africa for the first time from January 14 to 29. This series is being organized as part of preparations for this prestigious tournament. A total of 5 T20 matches will be played.
