Holy Ganges pushkaras It will start in a few hours. The celebrations will be held for twelve days from Saturday to May 3. These pushkaras are held wherever the Ganga flows. However, in Gangotri, Rushikesh, Haridwar, Varanasi and Prayagraj, the festival of eyes is celebrated. Kashi is what everyone remembers Ganga Pushkaras. All the devotees prefer to go to Kashi. Indians believe that Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwar reside here. Moreover, Indians consider the Ganges to be very sacred. Pushkaram means 12 years, an Indian period. ‘Pushkaras’ fall on all the 12 major rivers of India once every twelve years. Indians believe that taking a bath in Ayanadus during Pushkar time brings special merit. When Jupiter enters the respective signs, Ayana will get blessings. As long as Jupiter is in that sign, that river is in Pushkaram. The flowering period usually lasts for one year. The first twelve days of Pushkarakalam are known as Adi Pushkaram and the last twelve days as Antya Pushkaram. These first and last twelve days are more special.

Water is the basis for the survival of all the billions of animals. It is true that only after the birth of this water did the universe emerge. History has it that the first civilization spread immediately after the water bodies. It is a tradition in Sanatana Dharma to worship such water as a mother in the form of a deity. Also, the Indian tradition of river baths, Koneti baths, Samudra baths, Maga baths and Mangala baths is associated with water. Likewise, pilgrimages to holy places are also associated with water.

Shraddhakarmas, pinda pradanas and tarpanas are also associated with water. Elders say that performing Pitrakarma on the river bank is salvific. Legend has it that Lord Bhagiradha brought the Ganges to earth to uplift his ancestors. Lokokti says that if tilodakas are given, then Swasti Vachakam will be recited.

Hindus believe that Pushkara bath is the most sacred among river baths. Taittariya Upanishad explains that the sky is born from Brahma, air from sky, water from air, earth from water, medicine from earth, rice from medicine, and life from rice. Pushkaras are reminders of the importance of bathing in water, which is the main thing for living beings.
