England batted first. But the team’s top order collapsed due to the blow of Australian pacers Fred Spofforth and Frank Allen. With this, England managed to score 7 wickets for just 26 runs.

The first hat-trick was recorded in this match. This feat was done by Australia’s legendary pacer Spofforth. This right-arm fast bowler sent three England batters to the pavilion in three consecutive balls and achieved a hat-trick. With this, he became the first bowler to take a hat-trick in the history of Test cricket. Spofforth took a total of 6 wickets in the first innings of this match and 7 wickets in the second innings to give the team a memorable win.
