Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu called on the Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, in New Delhi on Tuesday. On this occasion, the Chief Minister had a detailed discussion with the Union Minister to adopt state-of-the-art technology and ensure proper use of science and technology for strengthening agriculture, horticulture and health services in the state. CM Sukhu said that his government is considering setting up a Department of Nuclear Medicine in one of the state medical colleges so that cancer patients can be provided radiation therapy treatment in the state itself and their time and resources can be saved.

The Chief Minister told Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh that Himachal is a highly vulnerable state to natural calamities. In such a situation, in addition to setting up Doppler radars in Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti, setting up weather observatories in Hamirpur, Chamba, Nalagarh, Keylong and Kaza regions, Hamirpur to strengthen the disaster response, analysis and weather forecasting system. It is necessary to establish a data center in the district. This will not only save precious lives, but the farmers and horticulturists of the state will get accurate weather related information on time.
He said that the need of the hour is to lay special emphasis on adopting modern scientific methods. The CM also requested the Center to provide technical assistance for this. Along with organizing orientation programs for the officers of the State Horticulture and Agriculture Department, he also urged cooperation in getting them acquainted with new techniques, so that they could be well informed about innovative techniques. For the purpose of organizing training programs for farmers and gardeners, which will help farmers and gardeners to improve the quality of their products.
The Chief Minister also urged to include Chamba district for lavender cultivation under ‘Aroma Mission’ and provide technical assistance to the farmers for lavender production. Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Bharat Kheda, Residential Commissioner Meera Mohanty and Principal Private Secretary to Chief Minister Vivek Bhatia were also present in the meeting.
